Research and Training

I am the Divisional Research Lead at University Hospital of North Midlands. I am the Lead /Chief investigator for single centre (UHNM) randomised controlled trial – laparoscopic excision/ablation of mild to moderate endometriosis with helium thermal coagulation compared with electro-diathermy: a randomised controlled trial. This has been funded by National Institute of Health Research (Research for patient benefits). This is a 3 year study (started in February 2014).

The total funding received is £236000. UKCRN ID 15332. We have recruited 87 patients and majority have had a laparoscopic intervention. We have consistently met our recruitment targets. This study has attracted patients from outside the county.

I provide training in advanced gynaecological laparoscopy, surgical management of endometriosis and advanced hysteroscopic surgery.

I am a co-investigator for the MEDAL study (CLRN portfolio). This is a multi-centre RCT comparing laparoscopy and MRI for diagnosis of pelvic pain. I have actively participated in recruiting patients and performing laparoscopies.

I am co-investigator for the FEMME (treating fibroids with embolization or myomectomy to measure the effect on QoL). I have recruited patients and been involved in performing laparoscopic myomectomies.

I am the principal investigator for PRECISE study. This is a commercial study evaluating the use of Ullipristal Acetate (ESMYA) in treating fibroids.

I am the principal investigator for RESPONSE study at UHNM. This is a commercial study in collaboration with Birmingham Trials Unit. This is a randomised, double-blind, multicentre, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of NT100, in pregnant women with a history of unexplained recurrent miscarriage.
